The
capture of
Audias Flores Silva, identified as
number two in the structure of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), leaves the criminal group with only three possible successors to the leadership after the killing of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, known as "El Mencho." And it is that among the suspicion of betrayals and power play, various hypotheses have been handled.
Federal authorities claim that the operation carried out on Monday represents a "hard blow" to the operational and financial capacity of the cartel, considered the one with the greatest presence in the country and designated by the United States as a terrorist organization.
In a press conference,
Omar García Harfuch, federal Secretary of Security, explains that, after the death of "El Mencho" two months ago, the Mexican government had identified
four key figures as possible replacements in the leadership of the CJNG. Flores Silva, alias "El Jardinero", was among them. Now, after his arrest, the list is reduced to three: Juan Carlos Valencia González, alias el 03 (stepson of El Mencho),
Gonzalo Mendoza Gaytán ("El Sapo"),
Ricardo Ruiz Velasco ("RR"), all part of the organization's leadership.

According to information from the Security Cabinet, Flores Silva, 45 years old and originally from Huetamo, Michoacán, first served as head of security for "El Mencho." He then assumed regional command in the states of Nayarit, Jalisco, State of Mexico and Zacatecas to coordinate the production and trafficking of methamphetamine and the operation of clandestine laboratories. Mexican authorities also link him to fuel theft and extortion.
Since
2021,
the United States formally requested his extradition to try him for crimes of criminal association dedicated to drug trafficking and illegal possession of weapons. In
2024, the
DEA issues an international alert and offers a reward of
five million dollars for his location, highlighting the interest of the US government in the case.
