Bangkok.- A large sinkhole discovered this Wednesday in front of a Bangkok hospital forced the evacuation of dozens of patients due to the risks of the ground collapsing, which interrupted electricity, the supply of drinking water and traffic in the area, according to confirmed authorities from Thailand. The collapse, the causes of which are under investigation, opened a hole 50 meters deep and 30 meters wide by 30 meters long that swallowed a crane that was parked in front of the health center.

"It is initially believed that the cause was a ground movement and the accumulation of groundwater at the junction between the tunnel and the station wall, which caused the road to collapse," Bangkok Administration said in a statement.

Videos on social media

When the ground opened up, as shown by several videos shared on social media, poles with electrical wiring fell into the pit, in which two giant pipes poured water, which helped to widen the sinkhole. According to the Thai PBS public chain, a police building located near the sinking was also evacuated, although the authorities believe that the damage is under control at the site. No personal injury

Bangkok Governor Chadchart explained on site that the collapse did not leave any injured people and that three vehicles were damaged in the area, declared off-limits from today, so traffic has been suspended and dozens of premises and homes were evacuated. The hospital, according to the Bangkok Administration, will close outpatient services for at least 48 hours, while it expects to operate normally in the emergency and hospitalization areas.
