Washington.- The former US President Joe Biden, 82, was evaluated by specialists after the discovery of a "small nodule" in the prostate during a routine medical exam.
"A small nodule was found on the prostate during a routine physical exam, which required further evaluation," a Biden spokesperson said in a brief statement.
The veteran Democratic politician was examined at a hospital in Philadelphia last Friday, according to a report this Tuesday by the newspaper The New York Times.
Further tests will be required to determine whether the nodule is benign or could instead point to prostate cancer, although the spokesperson did not offer further details on the treatment.
Biden left the White House last January as the oldest U.S. president in office. During his presidency (2021-2025), there were questions about his fitness to continue in the position due to his age and health.
The Democratic former president abandoned the re-election race in mid-2024 to instead support the candidacy of his vice president, Kamala Harris, who was defeated at the polls by Donald Trump.

In early 2024, Biden's personal physician declared him fit to continue in the position after a physical examination.
In February 2023, Biden had a cancerous lesion removed from his chest in a successful operation, after which the then White House physician assured that no further treatment was required.
Before assuming the office of president, the also former senator and former vice president had several cancerous skin lesions that were not melanoma removed.
