La Paz,.- The Bolivian Prosecutor's Office will request 180 days of preventive detention against Luis Marcelo Arce Mosqueira, the eldest son of President Luis Arce, who was captured this Thursday for a case of domestic violence against his partner.
"A formal accusation has been filed for the crime of domestic violence in its physical and psychological aspects, for which the exceptional measure of preventive detention for a term of 180 days is being requested and requested," reported the departmental prosecutor of Santa Cruz (east), Alberto Zeballos. You may be interested in: Prosecutor requests to revoke the suspended sentence of a man convicted of drug trafficking
The representative of the Public Ministry indicated that Arce Mosqueira appeared to testify voluntarily, after which the arrest warrant that the case prosecutor Jéssica Echeverría had issued on September 20 was "executed". The president's son also had an arrest warrant with a "red notice" from Interpol, which is believed to be the reason Arce Mosqueira finally decided to voluntarily surrender to the authorities. Zeballos mentioned that the Prosecutor's Office has "all the elements", such as psychological and social assessments and statements, that support the process against him, so it only remains for the accused to offer his judicial declaration in the next few hours. The arrest warrant issued in September was based on the complaint filed by Arce Mosqueira's partner, who claimed to be a victim of "psychological violence" and "physical violence", as explained at the time by the Attorney General, Róger Mariaca. That same day, President Arce stated on X that: "any complaint against my children, who are of legal age and fully responsible for their actions, must be investigated and clarified before the relevant authorities as with any other citizen." He also clarified that his position on these issues is given "beyond" his status as President of Bolivia, but "as a father who respects the laws" of the country. However, after ten days, the complainant withdrew the complaint against the eldest son of the Bolivian president and to "avoid criminal proceedings" after "accepting the apologies" offered by her aggressor, as well as a way to prevent her image from being publicly exposed. However, the Prosecutor's Office said that despite the withdrawal, the process would continue until the Bolivian president's son was captured. However, prosecutor Zeballos explained that the judge in the case will also have to assess the conciliation action by which the victim dropped her complaint against the accused. Likewise, the departmental prosecutor of Santa Cruz remarked that in this case there has been "emotional and cognitive affectation" against the assaulted woman, who had a forensic assessment of twelve days of impediment due to the aggression she suffered. A few weeks ago, President Arce was also accused of abandoning a pregnant woman, a former state official with whom he allegedly had a child and who, according to the complainant, the head of state refused to recognize.
