Air Force helicopter suffers accident during training; crew unharmed

Santo Domingo.– The Ministry of Defense of the Dominican Republic reported that a helicopter aircraft, model AgustaWestland AW139, belonging to the Dominican Republic Air Force, suffered an accident on the afternoon of Wednesday, April 22, while conducting a training flight in the vicinity of the San Isidro Air Base. According to the official statement, the crew was unharmed, with no loss of life or significant injuries reported, which, according to the institution, demonstrates the adequate preparation and response capacity of the personnel on board in the face of this type of situation. Preliminary reports from the authorities indicate that the aircraft has sustained some damage, although the ongoing investigation will determine with precision both the causes of the accident and the actual extent of the damage.

The Ministry of Defense indicated that, in accordance with established procedures, an exhaustive investigation has been initiated with the aim of clarifying what happened. In that regard, it specified that it is not possible to offer further details at this time until the technical and expert evaluations at the site are concluded. Also, it was reported that the aircraft has valid insurance coverage, in accordance with established protocols.
