Authorities intensify search for missing child in the Yaque del Norte River

Montecristi. — Authorities are maintaining an extensive search operation to locate a two-year-old child who disappeared in the waters of the Yaque del Norte River, following an incident that occurred when his mother jumped from a bridge with the child in her arms. According to the preliminary report offered by the National Police, the woman was rescued alive by units of the Fire Department. She was identified as Ana Mavel Faria Infante, 30 years old. However, the child, Milán de Jesús Sepúlveda Farias, was swept away by the current, which immediately activated the search efforts at different points along the tributary. In the operation, members of the National Police, Civil Defense, Fire Department, and other response agencies are participating, under the coordination of the provincial governor, Leissa Virginia Cruz Polanco. The brigades work continuously with the support of boats and specialized equipment, in an effort to cover the greatest possible extent of the river and increase the chances of location.

According to the authorities, the mother presents apparent mental health disorders and is in the custody of the Northwest Regional Directorate, while the corresponding investigations are carried out.
