DEA recognizes Abinader's leadership in the fight against drug trafficking in the Caribbean

Santo Domingo.– The Caribbean Division of the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) recognized the leadership of President Luis Abinader and the commitment of the Dominican Government in the fight against drug trafficking and transnational organized crime in the Caribbean region.

The recognition was announced after a meeting between DEA Administrator Terrance Cole and the president of the National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD), José M. Cabrera, where they discussed issues related to regional security and international cooperation. Through a statement, the DEA valued the support of the Government headed by Abinader for the joint strategies aimed at combating criminal networks linked to drug trafficking and other transnational crimes. During the meeting, both parties discussed mechanisms to strengthen intelligence sharing, expand operational coordination, and develop new investigation and prosecution tactics against organized crime structures operating in the Caribbean and the Western Hemisphere.

The US agency also highlighted the importance of continuing to affect the logistical and financial operations used by criminal organizations for the illicit trafficking of drugs. Furthermore, the DEA reaffirmed its willingness to continue collaborating with the Dominican authorities in strengthening operational and investigative capacities, with the aim of reinforcing regional security and confronting the threats of drug trafficking. The authorities agreed that international cooperation continues to be a key tool to confront the advance of transnational criminal organizations in the region.
