Russia and Venezuela agree on a strategic partnership

The National Assembly of Venezuela ratified the strategic association and cooperation treaty between Caracas and Moscow, which covers various areas and defines the directions of joint work between the two countries in the long term.

The document was signed in May by Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Venezuelan counterpart, Nicolás Maduro, during his visit to Moscow to participate in the commemorative celebrations of the 80th anniversary of Victory Day in the Great Patriotic War.

What is the agreement about?
The pact indicates that Moscow and Caracas have the will to develop and strengthen multifaceted and mutually beneficial cooperation and expand the partnership in the field of trade, economy, investments, science, technology, and culture.

As part of the agreement, which will be in effect for ten years and will be automatically renewed every five years, the parties agree to:

Combat the legacy and falsification of the history of colonialism, denounce racism and genocide.
Jointly oppose the glorification of Nazism, the resurgence of neo-Nazism and other practices that contribute to the escalation of intolerance.

"The expression of brotherhood"
According to the president of the Venezuelan Legislative, Jorge Rodríguez, the agreement represents "the expression of brotherhood, the expression of a different way of relating between peoples and governments, the expression of the increasingly solid and persistent condition of friendship, brotherhood and cooperation between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela".

Rodríguez specified that "it is extremely encouraging that the relations between two brotherly peoples, that the relations between Russia and Venezuela, are increasingly solid and will be increasingly fruitful and beneficial for both peoples in the future."
