Santo Domingo.– The Senate of the Republic left on the table the bill that modifies the Dominican Labor Code, with the purpose of knowing and studying several motions of changes presented by different legislators during the session this Tuesday.
Among the proposals, Senator Rafael Duluc (Cholitín) submitted a motion to modify articles 420 to 438, while his colleague Eduard Espirísantos requested amendments to articles 240 to 250.
Meanwhile, Senator Alexis Victoria Yeb proposed to maintain article 228, which establishes the mandatory 10% tip in commercial establishments, food and beverage, without including delivery personnel or "delivery" from digital platforms, who will continue to be excluded from the benefit. "Analyzing that part, we realized that there is a distortion in that part. Creating a 10% for deliveries where everyone knows that the tip is delivered the same, it all depends on the speed of the delivery," said the legislator. The provision indicates that this percentage must be added to the consumption bill and distributed among the workers who provided direct services to the client in the establishment, excluding managerial or creative staff. The Senate President, Ricardo de los Santos, decided to leave the bill on the table to analyze the motions and agree on adjustments before submitting it again to the plenary, with the aim of guaranteeing a balanced labor reform adapted to the realities of the productive sector.
