Son of "El Gringo" arrested, linked to micro-trafficking network

Santo Domingo.– Authorities arrested five men during an operation against drug micro-trafficking in sectors of the upper part of the capital, including Luis Manuel Jiménez, alias “Manolo”, identified as one of the main leaders of these illicit networks.

Jiménez is also identified as the son of the deceased micro-trafficker Emilio Mesa Beltré, known as “El Gringo,” according to information provided in a press release. Agents from the National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD) and members of the Public Ministry participated in the operation, who managed to seize more than 6,000 grams of alleged controlled substances, including cocaine, marijuana, ecstasy and tusi, as well as two firearms. During the intervention, the authorities seized a box in one of the rooms that contained seven packages of a vegetable, presumably marijuana, with an approximate weight of 2,895 grams, as well as several additional portions weighing 165 grams.

A Keltec brand pistol, 9 millimeter caliber, with its magazine with capacity for 30 rounds, was also seized, as well as RD$24,600 in cash, one US dollar, two cell phones, a scale, a vacuum sealer, a money counting machine and 13 hookahs. Authorities indicated that the operation is part of the actions being carried out to combat drug trafficking and distribution in different sectors of the country. The detainees will be brought before the justice system in the coming hours for the corresponding purposes.
