‘The Devil Wears Prada 2′: How much does the editor-in-chief of Vogue earn in real life

New York.- The premiere of The Devil Wears Prada 2 has once again put the world of fashion magazines and the millionaire figures that their main executives can earn in the spotlight.

The sequel to the successful 2006 film, starring Meryl Streep, revisits the story inspired by the renowned editor of Vogue, Anna Wintour, who directed the American edition of the magazine from 1988 to 2025. Although she left the editorial direction of Vogue last year, Wintour remains linked to Condé Nast as global content director and editorial strategist.

According to reports from specialized media such as Hollywood Life and Business Insider, the executive came to earn around US$4 million annually as editor-in-chief, in addition to having additional benefits for wardrobe, makeup, and personal styling.

Publications also estimate that Wintour's net worth will be around US$50 million in 2026, consolidating her as one of the most influential figures in the publishing and fashion industry. The film has also sparked curiosity about how much the rest of the staff of magazines like Vogue earns. Recent data indicates that an editor in the United States receives an average salary of US$64,000 annually, although the amounts may vary depending on the position and experience. A senior editor can earn close to US$91,000 a year, while editorial directors exceed US$130,000. In contrast, fashion assistants —positions similar to the character of Andy Sachs in the saga— usually earn between US$35,000 and US$60,000 annually. The premiere of the sequel also prompted reactions from real Vogue workers. Chloe Schama, content editor of the magazine, recently stated that although the film dramatizes part of the work dynamics, it does reflect some aspects of the competitive and demanding environment that characterizes major fashion publications.
