UNICDA inaugurates cybersecurity laboratories and begins its 25th anniversary agenda

Santo Domingo.– The Dominican American University (UNICDA) formally inaugurated its Cybersecurity Laboratories, in an event that also marked the beginning of the commemorative activities calendar for its 25th anniversary. The day began with the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new laboratories, located in Building A of the campus, conceived as practical learning environments that allow students to develop skills in digital defense, vulnerability analysis, data protection, and cybersecurity risk management, through the use of infrastructures similar to those of the professional environment.

As part of the program, the keynote conference "Cybersecurity: Challenges and Challenges of the Digital Age" was held, given by Guido Gómez Mazara, president of the Board of Directors of the Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (INDOTEL), who addressed the main challenges facing digital security in the current context and the importance of strengthening institutional capacities in the face of technological transformation.

Upon concluding his presentation, the Universidad Domínico Americano (UNICDA) declared Dr. Guido Gómez Mazara as a Distinguished Visitor, in recognition of his outstanding professional career, his valuable contributions to the country's development, and the valuable contribution of his conference to the academic community.

During the opening remarks, the rector of UNICDA, Ing. Ramón Sosa, highlighted that cybersecurity has become an essential element for the development of modern societies, pointing out that "the protection of information, the security of networks and the resilience of digital infrastructures are indispensable conditions to guarantee the trust and sustainable development of countries." He also highlighted that the inauguration of these laboratories represents a strategic step in consolidating the university's academic offerings in technological areas, in alignment with the priorities of the Dominican State and the growing demand for professionals in STEAM disciplines. The new Cybersecurity Labs will allow students to train in a dynamic environment that simulates real scenarios, strengthening their preparation to face the challenges of the digital world and contributing to the development of highly trained talent for the country. The activity was attended by academic authorities, representatives from the public and private sectors, as well as special guests and students, who valued the initiative as a significant contribution to the strengthening of technological education in the Dominican Republic. With this event, the Universidad Domínico Americano formally begins the commemoration of its 25th anniversary, reaffirming its commitment to innovation, educational quality, and the training of professionals capable of leading in a global and constantly evolving environment.
