RD and US Close International Course on “Emerging Trends in Illicit Synthetic Drugs”

Santo Domingo.- Dominican Republic, through the National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD) and the Government of the United States, with the support of the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL), as well as the United States Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), closed the international course "Emerging Trends in Illicit Synthetic Drugs".

The training, which is the beginning of a series of trainings, aims to continue reinforcing interdiction operations and technical knowledge in the face of the threat posed by new psychoactive substances.

For three days, national and international experts discussed joint strategies to strengthen the processes of detection, seizure, and dismantling of criminal structures dedicated to the trafficking of synthetic drugs.

At the closing of the event were present Vice Admiral José M. Cabrera Ulloa, president of the DNCD, who highlighted the dedication and commitment of the participants in the training; Rebeca Márquez, Director of the Office of Anti-Narcotics Affairs and Law Enforcement (INL), United States Embassy, Special Agent Kaleb Sanderson, Attaché of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Justin Hitz, Head of Unit, Instructor and Coordinator of the International Training and Personnel Recovery Section, DEA and Special Agent Marc Godlewski, also Instructor and Coordinator of the anti-narcotics agency.

It is recalled that the act was headed by President Luis Abinader, jointly with the Chargé d'Affaires of the United States Embassy, Patricia Aguilera, and the Head of the International Training and Personnel Recovery Unit, Justin Hitz.

During the opening of the important event, the Chargé d'Affaires of the United States Embassy, Patricia Aguilera, highlighted that President Abinader has bravely responded to the call of the United States to join the fight against the threats of synthetic drugs.

The U.S. diplomat praised the Dominican Republic's handling of the established protocols to address the issue of synthetic drugs.

The Dominican Republic, as part of bilateral cooperation with the United States, has articulated joint efforts with public and private institutions to confront the distribution and commercialization of new narcotic substances, taking into account the serious threats they pose to both public health and national stability and security.
