Possible old bomb found in El Morro de Montecristi

Montecristi. – A group of visitors exploring the protected area of El Morro de Montecristi came across an unusual finding, an artifact with the appearance of an old bomb, apparently linked to the period of the dictatorship of Rafael Leónidas Trujillo. The object was found half-buried among the vegetation, and it has characteristics similar to explosives used by the military in past decades, which caused alarm among tourists and residents, given the ecological and tourist importance of the place.

Following the notification, local authorities deployed a security operation and are awaiting a specialized explosive ordnance disposal team that will be in charge of analyzing the device, verifying its authenticity, and determining the level of risk. In the meantime, access to the area has been restricted and the population is urged to stay away from the area. Despite the call for caution, dozens of onlookers have approached the site, which has forced the reinforcement of surveillance to prevent any incident.
