An unprecedented culinary feat

Claudia Olivo, in charge of the event, highlighted that this challenge represents more than just a record: "We want Santiago to be marked in the world history of gastronomy. This mofongo symbolizes our identity, flavor, and Dominican pride," she expressed. The mofongo, of African origin and widely popular in Puerto Rico, has been fully adopted by Dominican cuisine, becoming one of the most representative dishes of the country. Traditionally, it is made with fried and mashed green plantains, mixed with garlic, chicharrón and lard or oil, although in the Dominican Republic there are multiple versions with chicken, shrimp, cheese, longaniza and it is usually served with broth or criolla sauce.

Flavor that unites and represents

In addition to seeking a world record, the event's goal is to highlight the richness of Creole cuisine and consolidate Santiago as a high-impact cultural and gastronomic destination, attracting both locals and tourists. With this activity, the city not only celebrates its culinary creativity, but also pays homage to the traditions that have been passed down from generation to generation and that are an essential part of the Dominican identity.
