Santo Domingo Este. – With desperate shouts and banners in hand, residents of the Luz María 5 sector, in Santo Domingo Este, protested to denounce the critical situation they are experiencing due to the lack of drinking water, a problem that they claim has been without a concrete response from the authorities for years.

"We have been deceived again and again", expressed one of the community members during the peaceful demonstration, where dozens of neighbors gathered to demand the immediate resumption of the supply project which, they claim, was inexplicably halted right on South Avenue.

The residents directly hold the director of the Corporation of Aqueducts and Sewers (CAASD), in Santo Domingo Este, Robinson Pérez, responsible.

“Jamás vamos a permitir que manchen la imagen de ese buen funcionario. El problema no es Fellito, el problema ha sido Robinson Pérez, quien detuvo el proyecto”,

aseguró Josué Báez, uno de los manifestantes.
According to the community members, they have gone to the corresponding offices on multiple occasions, requesting a solution, but have only received empty promises.

"They told us that the project was approved, that it was coming, that they were going to connect a provisional pipe, but it has all been a lie. They sold us dreams," they lamented.

The situation is dire in Luz María 5. Not only do they lack potable water, but they also lack the minimum infrastructure to receive it.

“Aquí no hay ni tuberías. Vivimos comprando camiones de agua a 500 pesos cada uno, mientras Obras Públicas nos dice que no van a asfaltar las calles porque no hay agua”,

denunció otra residente con evidente frustración.

“We are not asking for luxuries. We are only asking for water, as any Dominican has the right to have it,” concluded one of the protest organizers.
