Madrid.- The airline
Air Europa has been recognized as one of the most efficient companies in the world in terms of sustainability, according to the EmeraldSky 2025 report prepared by Cirium. The company has obtained the Gold distinction and has reached the fourth global position in the ranking of airlines with the lowest emissions in relation to available seat kilometers (ASK).
With a record of 53.9 grams of CO₂ per ASK during 2025, Air Europa improves its performance by 0.6% compared to the previous year. This result makes it not only the only Spanish airline within the top ten positions, but also the only prominent regular company within the leading group in efficiency.
Cirium's report, based on real operational data from the world's hundred largest airlines, underscores the importance of decisions related to fleet and operations. In this regard, Air Europa stands out for having one of the most modern fleets in the sector, with an average age of less than ten years. Among its aircraft, models such as the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and the Boeing 737 MAX stand out, known for their high capacity and fuel efficiency. The Dreamliner, in particular, allows for a reduction of up to 25% in emissions compared to other aircraft in its category.
Sustained commitment to emission reduction
This recognition adds to the progress made by the company in its environmental strategy. Since 2015, Air Europa has maintained its commitment to reduce its emissions by 30% by 2030, a goal of which it has already achieved 23.58%. Likewise, it has been awarded in initiatives such as The Aviation Challenge, promoted by the SkyTeam alliance.
In addition, the airline continues to implement concrete measures to reduce its environmental impact. These include the progressive electrification of ground vehicles at airports such as Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport and Barcelona-El Prat Airport, as well as the optimization of operations at other bases such as A Coruña.
In the operational field, Air Europa has implemented innovative tools such as OptiClimb, which optimizes the ascent speed of each flight to minimize fuel consumption, avoiding more than 10,000 tons of CO₂ emissions in 2025. Added to this are protocols such as SETO and SETI, which allow aircraft to taxi with a single engine.
Finally, the company has launched a carbon offsetting program in collaboration with the technology company Chooose, offering passengers the possibility of learning about and offsetting the environmental impact of their flights through certified projects.
With over four decades of experience, Air Europa thus reinforces its position as a benchmark in sustainability within international aviation, relying on innovation, the modernization of its fleet and the constant optimization of its operations.
