French President Emmanuel Macron expressed that "Hamas' commitment" to the peace plan for Gaza by US President Donald Trump must be followed up "without delay" after the Islamist group agreed to release the Israeli hostages and negotiate the details of Washington's proposal. "The release of the hostages and a ceasefire in Gaza are within our reach!", Macron celebrated in a message on X.

"We currently have the opportunity to make decisive progress towards peace. France will fully participate in line with the efforts of the United Nations, along with the United States, Israelis and Palestinians and all their international allies," added the president.

Hamas committed on Friday to release all Israeli hostages under the terms presented by Trump "as long as the conditions on the ground for the exchange are met" and agreed to hand over the administration of the Gaza Strip "to a Palestinian body of independents". Subsequently, Trump demanded that Tel Aviv "immediately stop the bombing" to "safely and quickly release the hostages." Macron also thanked the US president "for his commitment to peace". This same Friday, Trump had given Hamas until Sunday to accept his plan for Gaza. This 20-point initiative, presented on Monday at the White House and accepted by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, proposes an immediate end to the war, the release of Hamas hostages, and the formation of a transitional government for Gaza that would be overseen by the US president and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair. This roadmap also contemplates the demilitarization of the Gaza Strip and the possibility of negotiating a Palestinian state in the future, something ruled out, however, by the Israeli prime minister.
