Santiago.- Unknown individuals broke into the facilities of the Cathedral of Santiago Apostle the Elder, located in the historic center of Santiago, and stole electrical cables and copper pipes from the air conditioning system of the temple, causing damages valued at more than 200 thousand pesos.
The Director of Communications of the Archdiocese of Santiago, priest Regino Collado, reported that the criminals took advantage of the lack of surveillance in the area to commit the robbery, which seriously affected the operation of the cooling system of the religious enclosure.

"They've pulled out the cables, they've broken everything, it's damaged, and that's why the heat is pressing here in the cathedral," lamented the religious man. Collado explained that the wrongdoers accessed an adjacent building, located about 200 meters from the main temple, where the console that powers the industrial air conditioners is located. He recalled that it is not the first time an event of this nature has occurred, since the cathedral was previously the object of a similar robbery, which in his opinion shows the lack of security in a historic and tourist area of great value for Santiago. The Archdiocese spokesperson deplored that, despite the case having been reported, the police authorities have still not offered a response. They demanded that the law enforcement agency reinforce surveillance around the religious monument to prevent further acts of vandalism and guarantee citizen security.
