The Argentine candidate in the legislative elections on October 26th Hernán Damiani, from the Unión Cívica Radical (UCR, center-right), died at the age of 66 after suffering a heart attack while participating in a political debate broadcast live by a streaming channel. Damiani, who was running for election in the province of Misiones, in northern Argentina, was participating as a guest along with other candidates on the program La Casa and, a few minutes after starting, suffered a heart attack. He was then urgently transferred to the Madariaga hospital in Posadas, where his death was confirmed. The candidate had an extensive political career in Misiones, an Argentine province known abroad for housing the Iguazu Falls: he was a provincial deputy for two terms during the nineties of the twentieth century, then held a seat in the National Congress and, currently, was part of the UCR list for the legislative elections of October 26.

Following the event, the program hosts asked that the images of the moment when he suffered the heart attack not be broadcast out of respect for the family, while YouTube removed the original recording of the debate to prevent its reproduction. His death generated a strong shock in the local political sphere. "With great stupor and deep sadness I receive the unexpected news of the death of Hernán Damiani. My recognition of his career, militancy and strong convictions," expressed the governor of Misiones, Hugo Passalacqua, on social media.
