Trump insists he "could speak" with Maduro to "save many lives"

Washington.- The president of the United States, Donald Trump, insisted this Tuesday that he "could talk" with the Venezuelan leader, Nicolás Maduro, to "save many lives" and added that things can be "done the easy way", but also "the hard way".

Trump defended his decision on a possible communication with Maduro when a reporter on board the presidential plane questioned him about why to dialogue with the Venezuelan if they have denounced him as the alleged leader of a foreign terrorist organization: "I could talk to him, we'll see," responded the US president.

"He is the leader" and "we can save lives", Trump added, who also held Maduro responsible for "sending" millions of people to the United States and concluded by saying that he is not happy with the issue. Trump's statements come amid a massive cancellation of flights and operations of international airlines in Venezuela due to the deployment of the United States military in the Caribbean Sea under the argument of combating drug trafficking, although the Venezuelan Government believes that it is an invasion attempt.

This week, various flight tracking platforms identified several U.S. military aircraft near the Venezuelan coast, over the Caribbean between Venezuela and Curacao.

Among the reported aircraft were a B‑52 bomber, F/A‑18 fighter jets, and an early warning aircraft. During the last few weeks, Trump has held constant meetings with Pentagon authorities to evaluate possible action options on Venezuela, after having initiated a military campaign in international waters with which they have killed more than 80 people and destroyed more than twenty boats supposedly linked to drug trafficking.
