The pope asked today not to be afraid to "welcome and defend every conceived child" and defended the "wonderful adventure of motherhood and fatherhood" in the face of the current "lack of faith in life" which, in his opinion, is a "widespread disease". "Life runs the risk of no longer representing a gift of opportunity, but an unknown" and even "almost a threat from which we must protect ourselves so as not to be disappointed," said Leo XIV in his usual general audience on Wednesdays before the faithful gathered in St. Peter's Square. He acknowledged that the current lack of trust in life has spread like a "widespread disease": It is "as if we had resigned ourselves to a negative fatality, of renunciation", warned the Pope, who urged to "change course" and defended "the courage to live and generate life".

"It is God who gives life and when we trust in Him, in turn we generate life, thus promoting humanity in all its expressions. This happens through the wonderful adventure of motherhood and fatherhood, which can occur even in social contexts where families struggle to bear the burdens of daily life, often being hindered in their plans and dreams," emphasized the pontiff.

At the moment of greetings and specifically when addressing the Polish faithful, the Pope exhorted them: "May your families never lack the courage to make decisions about motherhood and fatherhood. Do not be afraid to welcome and defend every conceived child; proclaim and serve the Gospel of life".
