An Iranian opposition group puts the death toll in the protests at over 3,000

The People's Mujahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI), an opposition group to the Tehran regime, estimates that more than 3,000 people have died in the protests that have taken place in Iran since the end of December due to the repression of the authorities. In a statement published this Monday from its base in Paris, WIPO indicates that between December 28 and January 11, more than 3,000 "martyrs" have been exceeded in 195 cities throughout Iran, and states that these data are based on investigations with local sources, hospitals, forensic services and families of the victims. Above all, it denounces that the regime has "falsely" attributed the responsibility for the deaths it has shown on state television to protesters and opponents.

The leader of this group, Maryam Rajavi, stated that "this serious crime against humanity will not go unpunished" and that the perpetrators and those responsible "will answer to Justice in the democratic Iran of the future". In recent days, opposition groups and various NGOs specializing in human rights have published different figures on the victims caused by the repression, in a very wide range that goes from dozens to several hundred deaths.
