United States. – The tech company Nvidia is facing a lawsuit in the United States for alleged use of millions of copyrighted books to train its artificial intelligence models, without the authorization of the authors.
The legal action, filed in the Northern District of California court, alleges that Nvidia had accessed databases of illegally distributed books, including material from Anna’s Archive, which contains millions of digital texts. According to the lawsuit, the company had evaluated and used this content to improve its large-scale language models, despite warnings about its unauthorized origin.
The lawsuit expands on a previous case initiated in 2024 by authors who alleged the use of other pirate databases, such as "Book3" and "Bibliotik", to train AI models and generate revenue without compensating the creators of the material. The writers are claiming compensation proportional to the profits obtained by Nvidia thanks to this training.
This litigation comes at a time when Nvidia is positioning itself as a global leader in artificial intelligence and chip technology, with a capitalization of more than $4.5 trillion, driven by the growing demand for AI solutions.
The company has not yet issued public comments public on the new lawsuit, which once again brings into debate intellectual property and the ethical use of data for artificial intelligence.
