Family of man missing for 13 days in Santiago denounce lack of response from authorities

Santiago.- Desperation grows among the relatives of Luis Reyes, a 54-year-old man, resident in the Villa Gloria sector of the Santiago Oeste municipal district, who has been missing for 13 days without the authorities offering clear answers about his whereabouts so far. According to relatives, Reyes was last seen on Sunday at 9:30 in the morning, when he left his home. Since that moment his phone has remained off and no information has been received that allows to establish what happened to him. In the midst of the anguish, her sister Marta Reyes made a dramatic call to her brother and the authorities to intensify the search.

"We are desperate. The only thing we want is to know about my brother. If he sees this news, let him call us. Wherever he is, his family is waiting for him and whatever problem he has, we are going to help him solve it," he expressed.

Family members say they have asked the authorities to empty an irrigation canal near the area, fearing that the man may have fallen there. However, they indicate that the response they have received is that they must wait for an order to be able to intervene in the place. "They tell us they are working, but we don't see results. The first thing they should have done was check the cameras to see if he left the area or if someone did something to him. We don't have money or resources to investigate on our own," he affirmed.

Meanwhile, the president of the Villa Gloria Neighborhood Council, Luis Arias, joined the family's outcry and requested the urgent intervention of the municipal authorities. "The family members are desperate. We are going to formally request the director of the municipal district of Santiago Oeste, Eddy Báez, to help us empty that canal to rule out any situation," he indicated. Luis Reyes' relatives reiterated that each passing day increases their anguish, as they have no information about whether the man is alive or if some tragedy befell him.
