The complex will have a net construction area of approximately 12,700 square meters and will generate more than 200 direct jobs.
Santiago Rodríguez. – The Minister of Housing, Habitat and Buildings (MIVHED) Víctor -Ito- Bisonó headed the official act to begin the construction work of the new Santiago Rodríguez Correction and Rehabilitation Center, with capacity to house 400 inmates in the Northwest Line through a second chance model.
"That is what this first block that we are placing today for the Correction and Rehabilitation Center of Santiago Rodríguez represents: a commitment to more dignified, more organized, and more humane spaces, where the fulfillment of a sentence can also be accompanied by conditions that allow for training, discipline, and effective social reintegration," Bisonó indicated.
Likewise, the General Director of Penitentiary and Correctional Services, Roberto Santana, pointed out that the center will focus on respect for human rights and the training of those deprived of their liberty, to achieve their reintegration. "We are changing because between that center and the one that is going to be built here is the difference between day and night, there they are idle and here they are going to work and be trained," said Santana.
The center will have key areas for the technical and educational development of the inmates.
To ensure production and work: It will have a farm for raising chickens and rabbits,
an open agricultural area and a multi-purpose workshop building for training in technical trades.
Regarding education and coexistence: The socio-educational block will include an advanced library, classrooms, centralized dining halls, basketball courts for physical recreation, and VTP accommodation.
On security and cutting-edge logistics: The perimeter will be guarded by six watchtowers, control booths, customs area, and kennels (dog kennels). In addition, it will have a parking lot of 56 spaces optimized for general, private, and service vehicles.
