Jarabacoa councilors approve resolution that requires planting trees for construction permits

Jarabacoa, R.D. – The Council of Councilors of the municipality of Jarabacoa approved resolution no. 001-2026, which establishes as a mandatory requirement the planting of trees for the issuance of construction permits, regardless of the size of the work. The initiative was presented by councilors Roberto Ureña and Adrián Ulloa, and had the favorable vote of the nine members of the Council. The measure aims to ensure that each applicant for new constructions contributes directly to the environmental recovery and preservation of the municipality, promoting a model of sustainable and responsible development. According to the approved resolution, the following minimum number of trees to be planted is established according to the type of construction:
  1. Small constructions (remodeling, minor extensions of 40 m², fences, canopies and small premises): 10 trees or more.
  2. Single-family housing (up to 200 m²): 20 trees or more.
  3. Single-family housing over 200 m²: 30 trees or more.
  4. Multi-family buildings (from 2 to 4 levels): 40 trees or more.
  5. Residential projects (five or more homes): 70 trees or more.
  6. Small commercial constructions (grocery stores, offices and premises up to 150 m²): 20 trees or more.
  7. Medium commercial constructions (supermarkets, restaurants, among others): 45 trees or more.
  8. Tourist projects (villas, hotels and ecological cabins): 100 trees or more.
