Noem's visit responds to her leadership in the "Shield of the Americas" initiative of the Donald Trump administration. This strategy seeks to consolidate a network of collaboration between allied countries to address threats such as drug trafficking, border insecurity, and the influence of external actors in the region. In the current context, the Dominican Republic has been recognized as a key partner for the United States in the fight against drug trafficking and the strengthening of regional security. Noem's presence in the country underscores the strategic value of the Caribbean as a point of international cooperation against organized crime. The "Shield of the Americas" promotes multinational coordination and capacity building to dismantle criminal structures operating in the region. The discretion surrounding Noem's visit reflects the priority and sensitivity of the issues discussed by both delegations. The Caribbean remains a major route for drug trafficking to the United States and Europe. Therefore, Dominican and American authorities are seeking to reinforce surveillance and control at the most vulnerable points in the territory. Source: INFOBAE.
