Santo Domingo.– The President of the Senate, Ricardo de los Santos, highlighted during his speech the intellectual, academic, and democratic legacy of the engineer and political leader Ramón Alburquerque, when leading the posthumous tribute held in the National Congress.
De los Santos highlighted that to speak of Alburquerque is to refer to a lucid intelligence, a rigorous training and a permanent vocation for knowledge, built from the classrooms, books, libraries and critical reflection on major national and international issues. He also emphasized that his thinking was always based on solid arguments and that his dissent represented an invitation to a deep and responsible debate, qualities that he said contributed to raising the level of legislative debate and strengthening democratic institutions. The Senate President recalled Alburquerque's firm passage through the presidency of the Upper House, a stage in which he honored institutionalism, defended the integrity of the National Congress and promoted a vision of politics as an exercise in service to the common good. You may be interested in:Remains of Ramón Alburquerque Receive Honors in the National Congress
