Madrid.- The storm Kristin left an intense snowfall in Madrid this Wednesday, where mobility was affected in the form of kilometer-long traffic jams and suspension and diversions of public transport lines, and the Special Winter Weather Plan was activated.
Practically the entire peninsula is suffering the effects of the storm and is on alert for snow, rain or wind. More than 2,100 kilometers of roads have problems, the majority on the secondary network.
Both Madrid and the municipalities surrounding it, especially to the north and west, were covered in a white blanket from the early hours of the morning, which made it difficult for thousands of people who travel to the capital to work. But no other incidents were recorded.
In the rest of Spain, road closures, waterlogging, and falling trees and objects due to the wind are the main effects of the storm. The snowfall intensified to an approximate altitude of 600 meters in the west zone and 1,000 meters in the north of the community. Madrid is at 657 meters.

The community of Extremadura (west) is one of the most affected, with damage to properties, interruptions in the electrical and telephone supply and detachment of urban furniture, also in the main cities, Mérida, Cáceres and Badajoz. The population received an alert message on their phones for a red level - extraordinary danger - due to wind gusts that reached 150 kilometers per hour. In Andalusia, classes were suspended in educational centers in some regions and outdoor activities were prohibited in those throughout the community. The red level of emergency was also established early on due to the rise of the Guadalquivir River as it passes through Villanueva de la Reina (Jaén). In The Alhambra of Granada, one of the most visited monuments in Spain, pedestrian access to some areas of the complex was limited for the second consecutive day due to the wind. The storm also interrupted the passenger service between the Autonomous City of Ceuta and the peninsula, as the force of the wind prevented ships from crossing the Strait of Gibraltar. According to the State Meteorological Agency, Kristin will be an "ephemeral" but "deep" storm. After a "very adverse" day, with hurricane-force winds, maritime storm, heavy rains and snowfall at low altitudes, on Thursday it "will have already moved away" from Spain.
