1855. The Congress approves the Treaty of Peace, Friendship, and Commerce between DR and France.
- 1913. Following the resignation of Monsignor Adolfo Alejandro from the presidency, Senator José Bordas Valdéz assumes the presidency of the Republic.
- 1936. The Dominican president, Rafael Trujillo, and the Haitian president, Stenio Vincent, sign the Dominican-Haitian Treaty to end the border dispute, with an error that subtracted more than a million tasks from the national territory, without being claimed by the dictator.
- 1948. The first issue of the newspaper El Caribe comes to light, under the direction of Stanley Ross and with Walter Dosborne as deputy director, both Americans, while the editor-in-chief was Rafael Herrera.
- 1969. Construction work on the Tavera Dam begins with its own resources, which will provide water for the irrigation of agricultural land and the generation of energy, as announced by President Joaquín Balaguer.
- - On this day, the Color Visión television channel also began its broadcast in Santiago de los Caballeros, setting a precedent by introducing color TV in the country.
- 1972. After being shot by police troops who entered the UASD campus, student Sagrario Ercira Díaz Santiago dies.
- 2005. The prosecutor of the National District summons former President Hipólito Mejía to be questioned about his alleged links to the case of former Captain Quirino Ernesto Paulino Castillo, accused of leading a drug trafficking cartel.
- 2011. The Quiéreme Como Soy Foundation is created, as a non-profit institution, which works to promote the inclusion in society of people with special cognitive needs, through education, a culture of acceptance and humanization.

- 1493. Admiral Christopher Columbus enters Barcelona, returning from his voyage of discovery of the Americas, being received by the nobility, the knights, the entire city and taken to the Kings Ferdinand and Isabella and their son Prince Juan.
- 1573. Captain Juan de Garay leaves Asunción towards the south with an expedition made up of 9 Spaniards and 75 "young men born of these lands", the following year he would found Santa Fe and six years later Buenos Aires.
- 1865. Faced with the possibility that blacks would acquire the right to vote, actor John Wilkes Boeth shoots President Abraham Lincoln in the Fordees Theatre in the city of Washington.
- 1890. In Washington, D.C., the First International American Conference creates the International Union of American Countries, called OAS since 1948.
- 1912. The Titanic ship hits an iceberg and sinks 150 miles off the coast of Newfoundland. 1513 people die out of the 2224 who were on board.

- 2002. The deposed Venezuelan president, Hugo Chávez, speaks in the early hours of the morning from the Miraflores Palace, headquarters of the Executive Branch, to announce his return to power, after 48 hours of the attempted coup d'état.
- 2009. The Venezuelan and Colombian presidents. Hugo Chávez and Alvaro Uribe, respectively, lead a meeting in Caracas that concludes with the signing of several economic agreements, thus overcoming a period of crisis between both nations
- 2012. The President of Venezuela, Hugo Chávez, announces his resignation from attending the VI Summit of the Americas that is held in Cartagena (Colombia) and leaves for Cuba to continue his radiotherapy treatment.
- 2013. The acting president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, wins the elections by a narrow margin, but the opposition candidate, Henrique Capriles, does not recognize the result "until every vote is counted".
- 2017. The director of the US Environmental Protection Agency, Scott Pruitt, declares to the program "Fox & Friends", his opposition to the international pact to fight against climate change that was negotiated in 2015, known as the Paris Agreement.
- 2019. A Spanish judge decides to impose provisional prison for the former head of Venezuelan military counterintelligence services Hugo Carvajal, arrested under an extradition request from the US due to a crime related to drug trafficking.
- - The world's largest aircraft, (six engines and double fuselage), developed by the aerospace company Stratolaunch, ascends to the sky in its first flight test, taking off from the Mojave Air and Space Port facilities, California, United States, to perform a flight of a couple of hours.
- 2020. The President of the United States, Donald Trump, orders the suspension of payments to the World Health Organization (WHO), fulfilling the threat announced days before, while reviewing the warnings of the organization about the coronavirus and China.
- - Russia urges not to politicize the new coronavirus pandemic or the management of the World Health Organization (WHO) in the face of this global health emergency, nor to point to individual countries for the emergence of COVID-19.
- 2021. The UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, suggests to governments that they establish a tax for the rich who have benefited with at least five trillion dollars during the pandemic, "to reduce inequalities in the world".
- - Bernie Madoff, called "Wall Street Swindler", who devised the largest Ponzi scheme in history, which enabled him to deceive thousands of investors with 65 billion dollars, died in prison at the age of 82, when he had served 12 of the 150 years he had been sentenced.
