Santo Domingo. – Senator for the province of Santo Domingo, Antonio Taveras Guzmán, announced this Tuesday that he will exercise his legislative functions independently, a decision he communicated during a session of the Senate of the Republic.
Taveras, who was elected in 2020 and re-elected in 2024 by the ruling Modern Revolutionary Party, reported that the decision was made after a process of personal and political reflection.
"After deep and serene reflection, I announce to the country and to this chamber the decision to assume my role as senator of the Republic independently," the legislator expressed to his colleagues during the session held this Tuesday.
The decision marks a significant change in the political dynamics of the Senate, as Taveras will continue to hold his seat representing the province of Santo Domingo, but without assuming a partisan affiliation in the exercise of his legislative functions.
