Santiago.- Surgeon Juan Vila, recently dismissed as head of surgery at the Instituto Oncológico Regional del Cibao, stated this Tuesday that his dismissal is due to reprisals for the reports of irregularities and nepotism that he had made against the administration of the health center.
Vila pointed directly at engineer Héctor Lora, president of the board that runs the Oncology Institute, whom he accused of establishing "a family fiefdom" in the institution.

He asserted that several relatives of the leader are on the payroll, which, he said, compromises transparency and affects the quality of services offered to oncology patients in the region. The specialist insisted that his actions do not respond to personal interests, but to the need to strengthen the specialized health services offered in Santiago and the entire northern region. So far, the board of trustees of the Cibao Regional Oncology Institute has not issued a public reaction to the accusations of the former head of surgery.“The only reason for my separation was to report situations that harm the proper functioning of the institute and the attention received by users. There is no formal justification for my dismissal,” declared the doctor.
