CODESSD expresses concern about the country's economic situation and calls for prioritizing support for the national productive sector

Santo Domingo. – The Economic and Social Development Council of Santo Domingo (CODESSD) expressed its concern over various indicators that point to a slowdown in the pace of economic growth in the Dominican Republic, and called on the authorities to take urgent measures to strengthen the productive sector, protect the purchasing power of citizens, and avoid greater social tensions. Although the country has maintained relative macroeconomic stability, key sectors such as construction, commerce, local manufacturing, and micro-enterprises have shown signs of contraction so far this year. Added to this is growing pressure on Dominican families due to rising prices of basic products, the cost of financing, and labor informality.

“No basta con que la economía crezca en cifras; es indispensable que ese crecimiento se traduzca en más empleos dignos, y mayor capacidad de consumo para los hogares”

expresó el presidente del CODESSD, Samuel Sena.

CODESSD is concerned about the high levels of labor informality, especially among young people and women, the limited growth of MSMEs, which face financing restrictions and high interest rates, the increase in public debt, without a clear planning of return or sustainable productive investment, the reduction in the pace of private and public investment, the high public payroll, among others.

The organization reiterates its commitment to dialogue, transparency, and the construction of viable proposals that strengthen the country's economic democracy.
