Demand would exist to begin construction of the new Yamasá-Don Juan bridge

Monte Plata.- After the tragedy caused by the collapse of the bridge that connects the municipal district of Don Juan with the municipality of Yamasá, which caused the death of a driver, former deputy Juan Hubieres demanded that the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC), begin the construction of a new bridge over the Ozama River as soon as possible. Hubieres pointed out that this new bridge over the Ozama River cannot take as long to build as the bridge over the La Leonora River, as it would affect productivity, commerce, as well as the academic side, due to the large number of students who travel from Yamasá through Don Juan to the head municipality of Monte Plata. The also president of the National Transportation Federation the New Option (Fenatrano), requested the National Office of Seismic Evaluation and Vulnerability of Infrastructure and Buildings (Onesvie), presided over by engineer Leonardo Reyes Madera, to conduct a thorough evaluation of the buildings in the province of Monte Plata. Hubieres stated that what happened in Don Juan has shown that another tragedy can occur at any moment, so it is vital that a report be made on the conditions of the bridges and roads in the province.

He stated that, from now on, the residents of Yamasá and Don Juan will not be able to travel freely, but rather it will be an ordeal, because they will have to go around via the Cruce de la Bomba in Santo Domingo Norte to be able to reach the municipality of Monte Plata. The also president of the Rebel Movement assured that in the area of Río Verde de Yamasá there are bridges from the Trujillo era that have not received maintenance and its roads are 90% deteriorated, which makes access to the aforementioned community difficult. Juan Hubieres maintained that it is a necessity that in each community a survey be carried out and the buildings be quickly evaluated, safe routes be identified and the population be guided in times of crisis such as the one that occurred in Don Juan. Similarly, he called for an evaluation of the bridge over the Guanuma River that connects Santo Domingo Norte with Monte Plata, noting that it was built by the former dictator Leonidas Trujillos, however, a progressive deterioration is observed.

“This is a country exposed to hurricanes and earthquakes, so we cannot keep waiting for tragedies to happen to act and carry out the proper inspections,” he stated

Juan Hubieres asserted that a state of improvisation cannot be maintained and that action is only taken when a misfortune occurs.
