Santo Domingo.-The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources issued Resolution number 0017-2026, through which it declared the integral intervention of the Nizao River, in the section comprised from the wall of the Las Barías dam to its mouth in the Caribbean Sea, to be of environmental and hydrological urgency.
The provision responds to the serious environmental deterioration accumulated over decades in the tributary, caused mainly by the indiscriminate extraction of materials and the alteration of its natural course, factors that have compromised its ecological stability and its hydrological function. Likewise, the intervention seeks to protect vulnerable communities settled in the area and increase the resilience of the territory against extreme climatic events, which are increasingly frequent and intense.
