Environment urgently declares the integral intervention of the Nizao River due to environmental deterioration

Santo Domingo.-The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources issued Resolution number 0017-2026, through which it declared the integral intervention of the Nizao River, in the section comprised from the wall of the Las Barías dam to its mouth in the Caribbean Sea, to be of environmental and hydrological urgency.

The provision responds to the serious environmental deterioration accumulated over decades in the tributary, caused mainly by the indiscriminate extraction of materials and the alteration of its natural course, factors that have compromised its ecological stability and its hydrological function. According to the official statement, the measure orders the execution of channel rehabilitation works, as well as environmental restoration and remediation actions, with the purpose of recovering the geomorphological stability of the river.
