This May 26th commemorates International Lindy Hop Day, a date dedicated to celebrating one of the most vibrant and emblematic swing dance styles, in honor of the birth of the legendary African-American dancer Frankie Manning. The Lindy Hop was born in the 1930s in the Harlem neighborhood of New York, and quickly became a cultural expression linked to the rise of jazz and the social life of ballrooms like the Savoy Ballroom. Its style is characterized by energy, improvisation, and the connection between dancers. Frankie Manning is considered one of the most important figures in the history of the genre, by introducing innovations such as acrobatics and group choreographies that revolutionized dance and helped popularize it worldwide.
