Santo Domingo.- The
Central Electoral Board (JCE) announced this Friday the prohibition of publishing or disseminating polls and opinion surveys for electoral purposes before the official start of the pre-campaign period in July 2027.
The measure is part of the new regulations issued by the electoral body to regulate the registration and operation of polling firms in the run-up to the 2028 general elections.
According to the provision, companies interested in conducting studies on political preferences must formally register with the JCE and comply with technical and legal requirements established in the regulations.
The electoral body specified that the publication of polls will only be allowed from the first Sunday of July 2027, the date on which the electoral pre-campaign officially begins, in accordance with Law 33-18 on Parties, Groups and Political Movements.
The JCE also warned that polling firms that fail to comply with the provision could face administrative sanctions, including temporary suspension of registration for between six months and one year, as well as definitive cancellation in the event of recidivism.
The regulations also stipulate that the surveys used by political parties for internal processes must be supervised by the electoral body during the collection of information.
With this regulation, the Central Electoral Board (JCE) seeks to strengthen transparency, guarantee greater equity in the contest, and avoid early campaigns outside the deadlines established by law.
