Man sentenced to three years in prison for electricity fraud in the National District

Santo Domingo. – The Public Ministry obtained a sentence of three years in prison against a man found guilty of committing electrical fraud in the National District, in addition to the payment of millionaire fines for the damages caused to the energy system. The sentence was handed down by a court that accepted the evidence presented by the Deputy Attorney General for the Electric System (PGASE), which demonstrated that the defendant engaged in an illegal connection to the electrical distribution system, evading the measurement and billing controls established by the authorities. According to the record, the fraud was detected through an operation carried out with a court order, in which specialized technicians participated along with representatives of the Public Ministry. During the inspection, minutes and technical reports were drawn up that evidenced the manipulation of the electrical system for the irregular consumption of energy.

In addition to the prison sentence, the court ordered the convicted person to pay a significant financial compensation, as compensation for the damages caused to the distribution company and the Dominican State. The Public Ministry highlighted that this type of crime is typified in the General Electricity Law and carries both criminal and economic sanctions, as it affects the sustainability of the national electricity system. Authorities reiterated their commitment to continue pursuing electricity fraud, a practice that generates millions in losses and affects the quality of energy service in the country.
