Marcia Lucas, 'Star Wars' editor and Oscar winner, dies

Marcia Lucas, winner of an Oscar for the editing of the original 1977 'Star Wars' film, died on Wednesday at the age of 80 due to metastatic cancer, according to the family's lawyer, reported People magazine. The editor died in Rancho Mirage, California, surrounded by her loved ones. Lucas, who was married to the creator of the saga, George Lucas, from 1969 to 1983, was a key figure in the New Hollywood era.

In addition to 'Star Wars', Marcia Lucas edited 'Return of the Jedi' (1983) and George Lucas's first films: "THX 1138" and 'American Graffiti'. She was also part of the editing team for Martin Scorsese classics such as 'Taxi Driver', 'Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore' and 'New York, New York'.
