Santo Domingo.– The Ministry of Education of the Dominican Republic (Minerd) ordered the suspension of classes for this Thursday in the provinces of Montecristi, Santiago Rodríguez and Valverde, after being placed on red alert by the Emergency Operations Center (COE), due to weather conditions.
The educational institution instructed regional, district, and school center directors to maintain preventive measures in areas under yellow alert, especially in vulnerable zones, based on the evolution of the weather.
The Minerd explained that these actions include the constant evaluation of risks and the possibility of suspending classes in those areas where conditions pose a danger to students and teaching staff.
He also urged the educational community to remain attentive to official bulletins and to follow the guidelines of civil protection agencies.

According to the COE, the red alert is issued when there is a high level of risk to the population due to the imminent occurrence of adverse phenomena or when these are already generating significant impacts, which requires the immediate adoption of protection measures.
Meanwhile, the yellow alert indicates a moderate risk with the possibility of worsening, so the population is advised to remain vigilant, while the green alert corresponds to a preventive phase in the face of possible events.
