Open Justice Conference concludes with the Santo Domingo Declaration

Santo Domingo.- The First International Open Justice Conference closed this Thursday with the signing of the Santo Domingo Declaration on Open Justice in Latin America and the Caribbean, a document agreed upon by experts, judges, legislators and representatives from different countries, which will serve as a roadmap to strengthen transparency, accountability and citizen participation in the judicial systems of the region. The final day began with a plenary session on the advances and challenges of innovation in judicial institutions, followed by several simultaneous panels that addressed issues such as artificial intelligence and data governance, the use of open data in the justice sector, the protection of personal data, as well as the need to strengthen judicial ethics and integrity. Discussions also focused on the role of clear language as a tool for citizen trust and access to public information. In the afternoon, the participants were divided into working groups to analyze proposals on open justice at the local level, citizen participation and accountability, knowledge gaps, and institutional transparency.

The conference concluded with the plenary "The future of open justice in Latin America: challenges and opportunities", where the Santo Domingo Declaration was presented, considered a regional milestone that seeks to guarantee justice systems that are closer, more transparent and accessible to citizens. During these two days, representatives from countries such as the Netherlands, Mexico, El Salvador, Guatemala, Spain, Argentina, Colombia, Brazil, and the Dominican Republic shared experiences and good practices aimed at modernizing judicial systems, with a strong emphasis on the use of technology, open data, and citizen participation. With this declaration, the countries of the region reaffirm their commitment to move towards a more open, modern, and understandable justice for all.
