PN and Public Ministry carry out successful operations in Barahona

Barahona. – In a joint action aimed at strengthening citizen security, members of the National Police, attached to the Sub-Directorate of the Department of Criminal Intelligence (DINTEL) and the Rapid and Preventive Action Unit, in coordination with the Public Ministry, arrested two people and seized a high-caliber firearm, narcotic substances, adulterated rum and other illicit objects, during several operations carried out in different sectors of the province of Barahona. In a first raid, carried out in the El Puente sector, Sucre Antonio Novas was arrested by court order. The detainee was found with a Mini Uzi firearm, 9 mm caliber, with illegible serial number, loaded with 26 cartridges, which he was carrying illegally. During the same intervention, the authorities recovered a Suzuki motorcycle, model AX100, which is listed as stolen in this city, as well as two short-range weapons, demonstrating the effectiveness of police action.

In a second operation, carried out at an alleged point of sale and distribution of narcotic substances located in the Jarro Sucio sector of the Villa Central municipality, Randy Diober Mateo Méndez, alias "Clinton", was arrested. He attempted to escape upon noticing the police presence, but was immediately apprehended thanks to the rapid intervention of the acting agents. 154 grams of different narcotic substances, a scale, RD$4,415 in cash, a cell phone, and three boxes of smuggled cigarettes were seized at the scene, which evidences the illicit activity that was taking place there. Furthermore, during two other interventions in different parts of the province, in which several individuals managed to escape, the authorities seized 21 bottles of adulterated rum (clerén), 15 grams of narcotic substances, and two scales, preventing these products from being marketed. The detainees and everything seized were placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor's Office, for the corresponding legal purposes.
