The Unified Council of Distribution Companies (CUED) reported that work is being done to overcome an energy deficit resulting from the shutdown of the Punta Catalina II electricity generating unit due to a technical issue.
This event has caused several circuits to go out of service from electricity distribution companies, in response to which a technical team is working tirelessly to resolve the unforeseen issue in the short term.
The entity that manages Edesur, Edenorte, and Edeeste apologized for the inconveniences caused by the fortuitous environment that the system is experiencing and thanked the population for their understanding of the situation.
The CUED pointed out that the country is advancing, with the support of the Government, in the addition of new generation of energy, with the entry this year to the system of plants that represent more than 589 MW, which will strengthen the redundancy of the generation system.
He indicated that, with this support, incidents and unforeseen events, common in any electrical system, can be easily remedied.
By 2027, 400 MW will also be added, with the entry of the San Felipe I generator and in 2028, with the Manzanillo plant, of 800 MW.
He maintained that work is being done on the design of other additional projects, following the instructions of President Luis Abinader, to articulate a robust generation system where there is no generation shortage.
