Seven bullet impacts ended the life of a nurse after suffering an armed attack in Guatemala

The community of Mazatenango and the health sector of Guatemala are going through a day of mourning after the death of Caty Yessenia Flores Audon, assistant nurse at the Mazatenango National Hospital, who died yesterday, April 17, as a result of an armed attack on the road to the Pacific.

The incident occurred at kilometer 156.5, near the entrance to Colonia Jardines de Mazatenango. According to preliminary reports from authorities and rescue teams, the health professional was on the side of the road, where unidentified individuals approached and fired several shots. The attack provoked an immediate reaction from neighbors and passersby, who requested help.

Agents of the National Civil Police (PNC) arrived at the scene and transported the victim in unit Maz-074 to a medical center. During the journey, an ambulance from the Municipal Firefighters of Cuyotenango intercepted the police vehicle and transferred Flores to provide him with advanced life support.

Forensic Details and Evidence

The initial forensic reports indicate that the victim's body presented at least seven gunshot wounds, although some sources at the scene mentioned the possibility of up to nine shots. The impacts were located in vital areas, which made the patient's recovery impossible.

Minutes after the attack, personnel from the Public Ministry (MP) arrived at the scene to process it. Experts collected nine bullet casings, evidence that will be analyzed to determine the type of weapon used and advance the investigations.

So far, the authorities have not determined a clear motive for the crime. There is no data on previous threats against the victim nor any indications to explain whether the attack is due to personal or professional causes. The National Police deployed search operations in the surrounding areas and is reviewing security camera recordings in an attempt to identify the vehicle or motorcycle used by the attackers.
