The European Union condemned Iran's attack against the territory of Kuwait and demanded full respect for International Law following the episode involving missiles and drones over the Gulf country.

“These attacks represent a serious threat to regional security and stability. The EU will continue to support all efforts to de-escalate and will advocate for a sustainable solution in relation to the war between the United States, Israel, and Iran”, mentioned the bloc in a statement from the European External Action Service (EEAS).

Kuwait reported that on Thursday missiles and drones impacted its territory and that its air defense systems managed to intercept the projectiles. The attack occurred after the Iranian regime reported having launched an offensive against a United States base, in response to a previous U.S. military operation.

The European body urged all parties involved to comply with the principles established by the United Nations Charter and asked Iran to stop its attacks against the Gulf States and Jordan, as established by UN Security Council Resolution 2817.

According to the official version from Tehran, the action was intended to respond to a US bombing near Bandar Abbas International Airport. The explosions near Bandar Abbas activated the Iranian air defense systems (Europa Press)

Although the exact location of the base was not confirmed, explosions were reported in the vicinity of the main Iranian port, while Iran's air defense systems remained active throughout the night. In Washington, U.S. officials reported that they destroyed several Iranian drones before they reached their targets. U.S. forces responded with attacks against an Iranian launch unit to prevent further operations, while intercepting suicide drones aimed at a United States Navy vessel and a commercial ship.

On the other hand, under the context of the war in the Middle East, on this day, the United States Secretary of the Treasury, Scott Bessent, warned that the elimination of sanctions against Iran will not be immediate or total, but will advance gradually as the Tehran regime complies with the objectives demanded by Washington.

In an intervention during the Reagan National Economic Forum, Bessent remarked that the US government maintains economic pressure on Iran and that there is still no agreement signed between the parties. Asked about the possibility of easing the economic blockade, he responded succinctly that it will depend on the attitude and actions of the Iranian regime. Scott Bessent warned that the lifting of sanctions against Iran will be gradual and conditional (Reuters) The official explained that any easing of financial restrictions will require concrete steps from Iran, and warned that, if an approach is not observed in the negotiations, the US administration could intensify sanctions. Hours earlier, Donald Trump stated that he is evaluating a definitive decision on a possible preliminary agreement to extend the ceasefire with Iran. The president maintained that his government is not considering at this time the possibility of lifting sanctions or granting funds to the Iranian regime.
