Los Angeles.- The California prosecutor's office accused Britney Spears on Thursday of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs after her arrest last March, an incident that prompted the artist's voluntary admission to a rehabilitation center.
The Ventura County District Attorney's Office filed a formal complaint against the American singer for a misdemeanor, although the accusation does not specify the type of substances she would have consumed at the time of the incident, according to The New York Times.
The 'Princess of Pop' was arrested in early March by California authorities for allegedly reckless driving under the influence of alcohol. She was released within hours and summoned to testify before a judge next Monday.
Britney Spears' Personal Problems
Five weeks after her detention, the 'Baby One More Time' artist voluntarily entered a rehabilitation center to prioritize her personal well-being after an episode described by her team as inexcusable.
The singer's environment also assured that Spears was affected and remorseful for what happened, especially for the impact that the situation could have on her children.
Spears, who managed to end the legal guardianship exercised by her father in 2021, has maintained an active presence on social media that has generated concern among her followers.
Concern for the Artist
In October 2025, her ex-husband Kevin Federline expressed his concern for the artist in memoirs in which he considered it was "time to raise the alarm" about her behavior.
The singer briefly entered rehab in 2007 after being involved in several public incidents.
In January 2008, amidst the dispute over the custody of her children, she was briefly hospitalized twice in a mental health treatment center.
