Venezuela.– The acting president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, offered a preliminary report on the situation generated by two powerful earthquakes that shook the country, with magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5, respectively, which have caused damage to infrastructure and the interruption of some services.

During an official statement, Rodríguez reported that at least 20 aftershocks have been recorded so far, while search, rescue, and damage assessment efforts continue in various affected regions.

The official indicated that, although disruptions have been reported in several public services, they remain operational in general terms. However, she announced the immediate suspension of Metro system operations and railway service as a preventive measure against possible structural damage.

Among the measures adopted by the Government is also the suspension of classes for the rest of the week and the halting of all activities considered non-essential, with the aim of facilitating emergency efforts and ensuring the safety of the population.

Rodríguez called on citizens living in homes with structural damage to evacuate as a preventive measure and follow the guidance of civil protection agencies.

Given the magnitude of the event, the Executive declared a state of national emergency and requested all medical and healthcare personnel to report to their jobs immediately to strengthen the response capacity in hospitals and health centers.

Likewise, it was reported that the Simón Bolívar International Airport of Maiquetía will remain temporarily closed due to damages recorded in its infrastructure.

To coordinate response actions, a General Staff for emergency attention was established, composed of Diosdado Cabello, Juan Ramírez, and Héctor Rodríguez.
