The decisive play crowned a chaotic final sequence in which Russell Westbrook stole the ball in the final seconds, missed a layup, and then fouled Alexander-Walker in the corner. The Timberwolves guard made two free throws and intentionally missed the third to seal the victory.
Anthony Edwards led Minnesota with 34 points in a game that had playoff intensity and featured 21 lead changes. With this victory, the Timberwolves have won six consecutive games against the Nuggets.
Jokic, Denver's star, reached the highest number of points in a single game in his career and in the current NBA season. In addition, he achieved a triple-double with ten rebounds and ten assists in 52 minutes and 38 seconds on the court, without rest after halftime. His performance included key free throws in the final moments of regular time and the first overtime to keep his team in the game.
The Timberwolves played without Naz Reid and Donte DiVincenzo, who were serving suspensions imposed by the league following an altercation in their previous game against the Detroit Pistons. For their part, the Nuggets were without Jamal Murray (hamstring issues) and Michael Porter Jr. (absent for personal reasons).
Minnesota continues to establish itself as a contender in the Western Conference, while Denver will seek to recover after this close defeat in its next match.
