  • 1849: General Pedro Santana lays siege to the city of Santo Domingo and urges President Manuel Jiménez to resign.
  • 1855: A law stipulates that there must be a mayor in each town, village, city or military post, to administer justice.
  • 1861: Spain accepts the re-annexation of Santo Domingo to its domain, promoted by General Pedro Santana.
